Glacial Narratives

is an art project about Arctic ice

created by 3 visual artists over 3 years

Our first exhibition was “A Report from the Arctic”, shown in North Uist, Scotland for COP 26 in 2021 – 22.

Our second exhibition was “Cracks in the Ice” for Edinburgh International Science Festival 2023.

The “Greenlandic Chapter” is our third exhibition together and is being shown in Greenland and in Scotland.

  • Our current exhibition is the "Greenlandic Chapter", showing in Ilulissat, Greenland, and venues in Scotland.

  • Mary Walters

is a Scottish visual artist, and the producer of the series of exhibitions. Her work is inspired by her research periods spent in Svalbard and Greenland, where she has become fascinated by ice as a material. For this exhibition, she has developed a series of prints and drawings, and hangings made with the laser-cutter at Edinburgh Printmakers’ Workshop.

  • We are pleased that links are being created and developed between Greenlandic and Scottish organisations, including relationships involving young people. As artists, we will continue our interest in the future of the Arctic regions which have given us such inspiration and challenges for our artworks.
